Grave New World (Jane Ladling #6) by Gena Showalter and Jill Monroe

It’s time for Jane and Conrad to get their HEA. They’ve had a lot to work through to get this far – Conrad’s grumpiness at Jane interfering and solving his murders, Jane’s reluctance to get involved due to the family curse, murders getting in the way of their romance. The wedding is threatening to de-rail before the planning gets started in earnest because it’s starting to take on a life of it’s own with tastings and all the other decisions to be made.

But first Jane had another murder to solve. And there are suspects aplenty to muddy the water. Is it the ex-husband, his new fiancée (and Jane’s nemesis), a disinherited child or someone totally unexpected?

I really enjoyed solving this murder along with Jane and co. All the red herrings, wild theories and suspects kept my brain going. I did not see that twist I’ll admit. Fiona, Beau and the other Truthers are all along for the ride and I truly love the little family Jane has made for herself.

On the wedding side of things I’m pretty sure Conrad and Jane had a very “Them” wedding. I’m sad that this may be the last Jane mystery but I’m hoping we’ve not seen the end of Aurelian Hills other quirky inhabitants because I really need the security guys, Fiona and the others all to have a HEA too!

Knight of the Goddess (Blood of a Fae #4) by Briar Boleyn

This is a thrilling, unique and wonderfully depicted ending to a series that just set my imagination ablaze. This has fated mates, a shadow daddy, a reluctant warrior Empress, Fae magic wielders, battlecats and a superb gender swap of the Arthurian legends.

The world is so fully formed and the characters are fully fleshed, flawed and fabulously fun. There is great LGBTQIA representation and characters of all cultures depicted. The little nods to modern day conveniences – think baby slings and baby bottles, are funny little anachronisms.

As the mystery of her lineage unfurls, Morgan goes from strength to strength. Her little tribe of misfits follow her into battle again and again. That final twist really caught me unawares!

Draven is that perfect morally grey, shadow daddy hero we all want and Morgan the intelligent, mentally tough, loyal friend and very reluctant leader. I love that even though her friendship with Lancelet is fractured at times, they still turn up for each other. She makes an impact even on their newest allies and that is what makes the story so wonderful, Morgan is her own hero and she is very much the mover and shaker – Draven is HER sidekick!

I heartily enjoyed this quadrilogy and I’ve now added all of the authors other books into the TBR from hell! Please please please give this series a go!

Caution (Harper Security Ops #14) by AK Evans

Military Romantic Suspense
Tropes: Bodyguard Romance/Close Proximity/Found Family

Like every hardworking member of Harper Security Ops, Forrest Hickman takes time away from work to relax and recharge. And he often does that while riding his snowboard on the slopes of his favorite ski resort.

He wasn’t sure anything would be better than some time alone to clear his head. That is, until he meets someone to spend his break with.

Daisy Clark is searching for a place to put down roots. And she’s doing that while she tries to get back to some semblance of a normal life. Daisy’s always been an adventure seeker—that’s what got her into this mess—and that adventure leads her to Forrest.

For two weeks, Forrest and Daisy spend time with one another forming a deep connection. And when the time is up, they go their separate ways. But neither forgets about the other.

Then Daisy’s trouble catches up with her.

And that’s when she throws caution to the wind and confides in Forrest. She just hopes that her predicament doesn’t dull the spark between them.

AUTHOR BIO

A.K. Evans is a contemporary romance author of over forty published novels. While she enjoys writing a good romantic suspense novel, Andrea’s favorite books to write have been her extreme sports romances. That might have something to do with the fact that she, along with her husband and two sons, can’t get enough of extreme sports.

Before becoming a writer, Andrea did a brief stint in the insurance and financial services industry and managed her husband’s performance automotive business. That love of extreme sports? She used to drive race cars!

When Andrea isn’t writing, she can be found homeschooling her two sons, doing yoga, snowboarding, reading, or traveling with her family. She and her husband are currently taking road trips throughout the country to visit all 50 states with their boys.

Daisy leads a pretty nomadic lifestyle. She has the funds to settle anywhere but so far no single place she visited has called to her. Taking a short holiday in the snow is just what she needs to get over the tragedy she was involved in.

Just when she thinks she’s going to get a bit more adrenaline than she wished for, in skis Forrest to save her. The instant connect between them leads to an short but intense relationship whilst at the resort. But both feel the temptation to say that they feel more but both chicken out!

Then danger comes for Daisy and the first person she thinks of is Forrest. She soon sees that his second family at Harper Security is everything she has been missing in her life.

A brilliant meet-cute, intense, chemistry soaked attraction and some seriously smoking hot passion. They are flirty, funny and when it matters they can cut through the sh1t to the heart of the matter. Daisy could have been a 2D rich girl but she is intelligent, cool, fun, friendly and very down to Earth. Forrest is the perfect mix of protector, friend and lover. The romance definitely takes centre stage in this story and I could have done with a bit more of the actual danger looming but still a great read.

The Hero (Game of Chance #3) by Susan Stoker

A wrongful arrest, hidden drugs, stolen artefacts, a jail break, and an epic trek through Thailand & Cambodia. This packs a lot into one book! I love this series of heroes who no longer want to be heroes but end up saving the day anyway!

Kendric aka Bob was down with no more military life but the adrenaline still called him and he ended up working on rescue missions for a contact at the FBI. His friends would be p’ed at him if they find out he’s been hiding this side job from them. However his latest rescue takes him to Thailand.

Marlow fell into archaeology and now that fateful decision has got her in a bind. She was accused of selling drugs and smuggling artefacts and thrown into jail in Thailand. After a month she’s wasting away and is rapidly losing hope. But a visit from a “lawyer” gives her a shred of hope to hold onto.

When Kendric finally breaks her out, he and Marlow have to trek across Thailand and Cambodia to reach freedom. It’s not without trials and tribulations – least of which was having to get married so they could stay together!

Yes the pacing is fast and furious and the relationship solidifies really quickly but intense situations breed intense feelings and these two know exactly what they are doing. They relish making it to safety and their feelings really flourish. They both give each other the chance to back out or shut down the relationship and there is no third act break up. Kendric is all protective alpha male but he has a squishy core that relishes a tatty piece of paper.

Marlow’s version of HEA may not be everyone’s cup of tea but feminism is supporting people in what makes sense for them – not imposing our ideas on others. I loved getting to meet the team and their lady loves again. I’m really looking forward to JJ and April’s book next.
