Impractical Magic (Cleopatra Hill Witches #8) By Christine Pope

I loved The Sedona Files series and they led me to the Cleopatra Hill Series, which of course I stated reading mid series! They are set in roughly the same area and I felt right at home in the landscape I have come to know well through the books.

Jenny’s witch talent is not what you would call practical, hence the title. Being able to catch random glimpses into the lives of all those around you isn’t really something I’d wish for. Colin is one of the reporters who covered the story of the “kidnapping” of Jenny’s cousin and subsequent murder of her sister. When a witness comes forward after recovering some memory of that night, he is intrigued with the story. He’s very much a straight arrow and hates that thought of lying his way into crashing a wedding but he really wants to get to the truth. He certainly did not expect to be entranced by the bridesmaid!

Jenny knows he is a civilian but she decides she needs a bit of normal tonight. Their one-nighter feels wrong and both decide to continue seeing each other after the wedding. But as they are drawn deeper and Colin learns more than he should, courtesy of a VERY friendly ghost, Jenny feels her control on the situation slipping. When her power clicks on at a most inopportune time, she feels that nothing Colin has told her is true, after all he met her under false pretences.

Fabulously well written. Loving characters who feel the full range of emotions and are susceptible to the same pitfalls in love as we mere civilians. I loves seeing some past history put to rights and I;m hoping that the “friendly ghost” comes back in another book!

I’m now chomping for Strange Magic which is out later in the year. I’m just loving this crazy, mixed up, emotionally charged extended family! P>S I really hope Colin’s sister kicks the odious hubby to the kerb!

Saving Margaret (Vegas Mates #2) By Krystal Shannan

Margaret, is the daughter of one of the Vegas Alphas. She has made her own way in the world and is now one of the VIP Hostesses at a large casino. She is happy her friend Sam has found love but worries that she’ll never find her one. But when she meets the best man at Sam’s wedding she is left reeling. She can’t be feeling the meting fever with him..he’s a Bear. If she’s learned one thing it’s that Bears tens to be the precursor to trouble!

At 6’11” Scott is heads above most other men but this shifter soldier is looking for a quiet life. He retired from the Army the same time Chase did. He’s planning on renovating the ramshackle property on his land into an Inn and enjoying the solitude. He did not expect to find his mate was a wolf. Their strong pack animals and unlike Bears are happier when around family. She is never going to be happy with him in the middle of nowhere in the Tetons!

But after a frankly hysterical first meeting, Margaret realises she is being stalked and it’s not her dad she turns to but Scott! Her wolf obviously knows something that her human half is not ready to admit yet. With the machinations afoot to trace the Demakis Alpha and undertake a coup, Margaret and Scott find themselves in the midst of shifter civil war.

This book picks up right where the first book left off. It’s fast paced and full of twisty turns that engage your brain and characters that engage your feelings. Scott is endearing as the Alpha with a heart who gets more than he bargains for in his mate. Margaret may not be as lonely as she thinks in her new life (no spoilers here!) With witty dialogue and snappy repartee I can’t wait to get to the next one now!

Lost in Barbarian Space by Anna Hackett

The Phoenix Adventures continue!!!! The Phoenix’s are more background characters this time as Honor is a security agent under Nera Darc. Working with the IHP she is part of a team who return to Markaria in search of the lost ships from Earth. Whilst there Colm, a warrior who is friends with Aurina and Kavon, is entranced by this warrior female. Females on his planet have all kinds of responsibilities but few have taken up the warrior life.

Honor is doing her best to ignore the pull she feels to Colm but Colm loves a good hunt!!! But when the danger increases when they go off world to a nearby moon Honor has to admit that the hulking barbarian is the right man in the right place at the right time.

A strong female warrior in her own right, she is never really intimidated by anything except the allure of the hulking warrior. She is used to her mere presence putting men off but Colm just finds her more intriguing. I loved Colm. He’s an Alpha to the core but he’s more than happy that Honor is capable of fending for herself (doesn’t stop him trying to protect her though). This series just never gets old and it continually evolves into a larger world of Sci Fi fabulousness!! Action, adventure, highly charged passion and characters that you love to love!

This cowboy and cowgirl sell the steak and the sizzle.

For eight years, Melody Santos played the game of love and lost—big time. Now she’s back in her tiny hometown looking after her younger sister, making ends meet with an assortment of odd jobs. When her childhood best friend hires her to help him sell his family’s grass-fed beef, the last thing she anticipates is falling in lust with the legendary, brown-eyed player.

To put his family’s cattle ranch back in the black, Clark MacKinnon has his sights set on big contracts—gourmet chefs and restaurateurs. If that means long hours traveling from farmer’s market to farmer’s market, Clark doesn’t mind. Particularly since his new assistant is his childhood crush, all grown up and sexy as hell.

One night in bed leaves them breathless and hungry for more. But when his love-’em-and-leave-’em reputation collides with her trust issues, Clark and Melody must face the truth about what they’ve become: not friends, not lovers, but players in a game that’s impossible to win.

Warning: Contains filthy banter, raunchy sex, excessive Johnny Cash references, and hundreds of pounds of raw beef.

Here is an exclusive excerpt from COWBOY PLAYER:

Melody shook her head. “You can’t help yourself, can you, MacKinnon? You’re a hopeless flirt.”

“Flirting? Thought I was just drinking beer and being myself.” He looked down at the empty

coaster in front of her. “What about you? What are you having? Gin and tonic, right?”

He remembered her favorite drink. Melody smiled. “No, I’m good. I’m on sister watch tonight.

She really wants to cut loose. Someone’s gotta hold her hair back when the vomit flies. Which it

inevitably will.” She waved her hand at him. “You should go have a good time. Get yourself a nice piece. Enjoy your Saturday night.”

Only Clark could make a shrug look so sexy. “But I’m already enjoying my Saturday night.”

Something about the way he said those words made Melody’s skin tingle.

As an experiment, she uncrossed her legs and leaned forward, resting her arms on the bar. For a nanosecond, Clark’s dark eyes darted to her cleavage before resting on his beer. A sudden, electric thrill shimmied down her spine. Her body clenched with pleasure, knowing she could still get the attention of a man as insanely hot as Clark MacKinnon.

But then…guilt.

That’s Clark. Don’t flirt with Clark.

Forget chocolate and flowers. This homegrown honey is all the sweetness he craves.

Small-town life is nothing but a waiting room for eighteen-year-old honor student Corazón Gomez. Work and school leave little time for love, but with a full-ride Ivy League scholarship and a one-way ticket out of the boondocks, who needs it?

The answer appears on Valentine’s Day when her old cowboy crush ambles into the ice cream parlor where she works, inviting her to go on a late-night ride in his truck. For the first time she wavers between staying on the straight and narrow, and going off-road with the handsome heartbreaker.

After four years working on ranches all over the country, Caleb MacKinnon is back on the family farm helping out his mom and brothers while his father fights cancer. The one bright spot: smart, funny, and wickedly sexy Cora.

From the start, they both know this blazing-hot love affair can’t last. But when autumn comes and Cora has to leave for the East Coast, Caleb must find a solution to keep himself—and his heart—from falling apart.

Warning: Contains hard, cherry-poppin’ sex in a pickup truck and a cowboy charmer who talks dirty in two languages.

Ball-busting business woman meets no-holds-barred cowboy. He’s gonna need a longer rope…

Marketing hotshot Monica Kaur has put her big-city life on hold to help bail out her brother’s failing business. Now she’s got three months to plan and promote a rodeo, the first her tiny hometown has ever seen.

To ensure the rodeo’s success, Monica enlists a local hero, a rancher’s son who’s made a name for himself on the bull-riding circuit. Problem? She can’t stop daydreaming about the cocky bastard—and all the things she longs to do to him out behind the chutes.

Professional bullfighter Dean MacKinnon is home helping his family while his father fights cancer. Haunted by bad memories, jaded by love, Dean finds escape in a no-strings-attached go-round with brainy, sexy Monica, whose close-knit Sikh-American family would sooner run him out of town than see her with a notorious rodeo Romeo.

In private, Monica and Dean play as hard as they work. But as the rodeo draws near, that clean break they promised each other is getting more and more hung up in the rigging.

Mia Hopkins writes lush romances starring fun, sexy characters who love to get down and dirty. She’s a sucker for working class heroes, brainy heroines and wisecracking best friends.

When she’s not lost in a story, Mia spends her time cooking, gardening, traveling, volunteering and looking for her keys. In a past life, she was a classroom teacher and still has a pretty good “teacher voice” and “teacher stare.”

She lives in the heart of Los Angeles with her roguish husband and two waggish do

Range Reardon
Filth, dirt, and hunger. That was my life before I stumbled across a junkyard with a closed sign out front when I was twelve years old. Born the son of a drunk and left to fend for myself, I was lost until I was found. Buck Calhoun was an ex-biker struggling with his own demons from his past. He didn’t want me, but I needed him. My persistence paid off and I became one of his junkyard boys. He taught me how to be a man, how to fight, how to survive. He became my mentor, my friend, and my father. He gave us all he could until he had nothing else to offer.

Clover Benjamin
A black sheep, an outcast, and a joke. I don’t fit into my perfect family. They’re a bevy of beauties with outgoing personalities and bubbly personas. I on the other hand, don’t look like them, speak like them, or act like them, but I’ll always be me. I spend my evenings watching classic television while working towards buying my own car. I’m boring. I don’t date, nor do I socialize. That all changes when a sexy Adonis saves me from certain death at the hands of a mutant insect. His masculine beauty takes my breath away, but I know I’ll bore him. The only problem is, he won’t take no for an answer.

New-found love is tested and all hell breaks loose when a stranger from Buck’s past brings danger to the junkyard, threatening the only home they’ve ever known.

Risk of Exposure by Emmy Curtis

James Bond has lost his place as my favourite British spy!!! Malone is smouldering, searing alpha man on a stick!!! Passion, intrigue, adventure and blackmailing CIA agents all combine into a wonderful read.

We’ve met Malone a few times in other books in the series as a kind of back up character, with just a glimpse of what was to come. He is ex-SAS and all smartmouth!!! He’s not happy to be babysitting his boss’ daughter, she is the most boring woman in the world.

Abby enjoys her work at a Ukrainian orphanage, even if it is a cover for her CIA work. No one knows she is a covert agent, not even her family. But lately she has the feeling she is being watched but she can’t find any trace of a tail. When he manages to wangle a way to meet her and see what she is upto, he didn’t expect it to lead to a hot as heck interlude in an alley!

But when trouble looms, she blackmails him into helping her out and finding out what the Russians are up to on the border. There may be pro Russian sympathisers loose and with patchy technology tethering her to the outside world, Abby is upto her neck in it.

Abby was a bit hard to like at first. She was all “independent woman don’t need anyone” but was quick to threaten Malone with Daddy when he didn’t jump to her tune. I could also find no reason why she was so easy to jump to the wrong idea about Malone. Malone on the other hand was really funny and put upon! He was an ass but a very nice one, even though he hid it under a whole lot of naughtiness!!!!

Felt it was well paced and loved the little epilogue, I love seeing what characters get up to after the initial dust settles. Can’t wait for the next – I do hope Malone and Abby pop up again.

Gambling on her Dragon by Anna Lowe

Wolf Shifter Trey Dixon is fresh off his cousins ranch. He’s on his way back to the East Coast and a new job. But what better way to blow off some steam than by visiting Sin City? He’s learned Poker in the bunkhouse but when he hits a very lucky streak he can’t believe his luck, especially when a certain green eyed vision becomes his good luck charm!

But when he wakes the next morning with a beyond-a-hangover headache and watches his lucky charm plummet from the balcony he has a feeling he’s in a worldclass cluster!

Kaya Proulx is a dragon shifter with a wad of family problems. Her sister has got herself in tow with some supernatural creeps and now needs her freedom to be bought. Kaya doesn’t have the money and resorts to attempting to steal it. She didn’t plan on sleeping with her mark but she did him a favour didn’t she? She led him away from the fighting pits he was about to get himself landed in. But when she makes off with his hard won cash she can’t help the stab of pain in her heart. He was just a one night stand – wasn’t he?

But when her well laid plans go off the rails and Trey tracks her down, can she let the hunky wolf into her plan? Will he cut and run or will their connection bring him into her plan?

I loved this series. Trey is an off shoot character from the Twin Moon Ranch series which I love!! Kaya is the adorable wannabe thief who is not very well organised when it comes to keeping contact info and her phone on her person when she needs it! Trey is wonderfully laid back as the mark who unwittingly ends up with more than he bargained for! With nasty gargoyles, bloodsucker bookies (in more ways than one) this a fab romp through the underbelly of Vegas!
